POLAND – CYCLING ALONG THE VISTULA RIVER

An 8 Day Guided Cycle Tour covering approximately 240 kilometres from Cracow to Warsaw.

Day 1: No Cycling

Welcome to Cracow

Individual arrival in Cracow. Your guide will meet you at 2 p.m. in your hotel. Afterwards we tour the Old Town and enjoy its unique atmosphere. It has been on the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1978. Landmarks include St. Mary’s Basilica, particularly famous for its wooden altarpiece carved by Veit Stoss, Wawel Cathedral and the Royal Castle. After the tour you have dinner in a restaurant in the Old Town.

Day 2: Train and 33 kilometres by bike

Through the forest to the royal castle

After breakfast we go by train out of town and have a nice cycling tour in the surrounding countryside. On the way, in Niepolomice, we admire a Gothic castle built by king Kazimierz the Great in the 14th century in the Vistula valley. Further we ride through the beautiful Niepolomicki forest. We return to Cracow by train. Dinner in a restaurant in the Old Town.

Day 3: 50 kilometres by bike, 110 kilometres by bus

Baranow Sandomierski, the Polish magnate residence

After breakfast we leave Cracow and cycle to Nowe Brzesko. We follow the “Vistula route” and enjoy the quiet and picturesque countryside. Late in the afternoon we reach by bus our hotel in Baranow Sandomierski. The castle, built at the end of the 16th century in Renaissance style, is one of the most impressive residences of the former Polish aristocracy.

Day 4: 55 kilometres by bike

Sandomierz – a jewel of architecture

In the morning we tour the castle and then continue cycling along the Vistula River. It takes the whole day to reach our next destination – Sandomierz. The town is located a few kilometres from the spot where the river San joins the river Vistula. The beautiful architecture of the Old Town in Sandomierz is a big tourist attraction, almost comparable with Cracow.

Day 5: 20 kilometres by bike

Sandomierz – underground and on the river

After breakfast we have a guided tour of the city (underground tunnels, Gothic cathedral, about 3 hours long). Then by bike we explore the nearby area of Sandomierz. In the evening a ship cruise awaits us, a perfect way to enjoy the beautiful landscape and the town’s panorama.

Day 6: 50 kilometres by bike, 50 kilometres by bus

Kazimierz Dolny – the unspoilt nature

After bus transfer we begin our bike trip. We cycle along the river Vistula through the scenic Kazimierz Dolny Landscape Park and enjoy its nature. The absence of industrial activities of any sort has permitted flora and fauna to flourish there and some rare species may be found in the area.

Day 7: 33 kilometres by bike

Kazimierz Dolny – a picturesque Renaissance town

In the morning a tour of Kazimierz Dolny is scheduled. In the old town we admire its picturesque architecture, especially facades in the Renaissance style. From the “Baszta” (the Tower) we can enjoy a panoramic view of the town that fits in so well into the overall natural countryside. On our cycling trip in the afternoon we explore once more the lovely surroundings of the town. In the evening we have a bonfire.

Day 8: No cycling

End of the tour

Right after breakfast we go by bus to Warsaw (about 160 kilometres), where we have a guided tour of the city. The tour ends at the Warsaw Central Station about 3 p.m.

Individual departure.

Condition of roads:  

Mostly flat, mainly asphalt roads, cycle paths, sometimes field, gravel and forest roads.

Services:        

         Accommodation in hotels/guest houses in double and single rooms with shower/WC

         Half board: breakfast and warm dinner. Vegetarian meals can be arranged upon     earlier notice (please let us know if you eat fish)

         First meal upon the day of your arrival: dinner

         Last meal: breakfast upon the day of departure

         Mineral water at your disposal during cycling sections

Additional information:       

         Bike can be rented (on former request can be electric bike/pedelec)

Bikes for ladies and gents are equipped with 18 gears chain derailleur, without pedal-        brake

         It is possible to take your own bike (for extra cost of transportation from Kazimierz Dolny to Warsaw. During the trip your bike will be                        transported with other bicycles free of charge.
