ESTONIA – ON THE WILD SIDE?

Apart from having one of the loveliest capital cities in Europe – Tallinn – there is a lot of natural phenomena to explore and trails to hike away from the city.

DAY 1.

Arrival in Tallinn Airport. The driver will wait in the Tallinn Airport arrivals hall with client´s name sign. First class private transfer to your Tallinn hotel.

DAY 2.

KEILA WATERFALL / FERRY TO HIIUMAA / RINGED SEAL WATCHING/ORJAKU NATURE TRAIL / KARDLA / HOTEL LAINE SPA

The tour starts at 09.00hrs from your hotel in Tallinn. Our English-speaking official guide will meet you there. Transfer to Keila Waterfall (35 kilometres). A full 6 metres high, and tens of metres wide, Keila Waterfall is the third largest waterfall in Estonia. A lovely hiking spot, there is a path that runs along the riverbed and over two suspension bridges that go from the park to the waterfall. You can explore the exciting landscape over a 3 kilometre long nature trail.

Transfer to Hiiumaa (1 hour) – an island in the Baltic Sea, richly versatile, beautiful untouched nature and nice people. Thanks to the surrounding sea, the climate on Hiiumaa is a bit different from the one on the continent. Hiiumaa has small islets around the island like colourful pearls around the neck of a beautiful woman. Some of these more than 200 islands and islets have no flora or fauna for they have only recently emerged from the sea. Some of them are forested. To reach Hiiumaa Island we will take a ferry (45 minutes).

Here we will have Ringed Seal Watching (2-3 hours). Estonia hosts the southernmost ringed seal population in the world. They have huge haul-out areas, making them easy to watch. In Spring and Autumn as they rest near small islets and relax lazily on the rocks. We offer Ringed Seal watching tours around Hiiumaa islets by boat.

After lunch we will have Orjaku Nature Trail (3 kilometres)- walk along Orjaku nature trail in Kassari from the beacon situated 500 metres from the “eye” of Orjaku or from the lighthouse on the hill of Orjaku.  In both cases you can expect a 1.5 kilometres trail through junipers from where you can get a view of the Bay of Käina which contains a bird sanctuary featuring the most species in Estonia.

Take a ferry back to the mainland, transfer to and check into Hotel Laine SPA or similar.

Overnight in – Hotel Laine SPA.

DAY 3.

HIKING ROUTE SALEVERE / PARNU / SOMAA NATIONAL PARK / TOOSIKANNU SAFARI / TOOSIKANNU GUEST HOUSE /

Early morning, after the breakfast, we have transfer to Salevere. Here we have a hiking route Salevere (2 hours). The 1.5 kilometre trail runs along the ridge rising a dozen metres above ground level. The ridge is covered with Alvar Forestation which is rich in different species, (an Alvar is a biological environment based on a limestone plain with thin or no soil). The cliff towers above a Nemoral Forest which is quite a rare forest type in Estonia  (Nemoral = pertaining to groves or woodland made up of bio-me zones with a moderate temperate climate and short frost periods and are characterised by frost-resistant broad leaved deciduous forests).

After we have transfer to Parnu (70 kilometres) – this medieval city has an easy going and romantic air to it. Being largest resort in Estonia, Pärnu is also home to a variety of spas from large water parks to more intimate and historical bath houses.

After transfer to Somaa National Park (40 kilometres) – one of the dozen protected wilderness areas in Europe. The lack of human activity makes Soomaa a sanctuary for both large and small mammals. Moose, roe deer, wild boars, lynxes, wolves and bears live in Soomaa’s forests and beavers help shape its wet landscape.

Transfer to Toosikannu Safari Park (65 kilometres) – the bigger part of the park is a 780-hectare fenced-in garden, inhabited by animals that are well known and common in Estonia, such as elk, roe deer, red deer, raccoon dogs, badgers, and, of course, squirrels.

Afterwards, dinner in local restaurant and overnight in Toosikannu guest house or similar.

DAY 4.

ELISTVERE ANIMAL PARK / PEIPSI LAKE / SMOKED FISH / TALLINN

In the morning, after breakfast, we will have transfer to Elistvere Animal Park (One & a half hours).

We will have walk in Elistvere Animal Park (2 hours) – the animal park which opened in 1997 is located in the territory of the former Elistvere Manor Park. Native wild animals – foxes, roe deer, a bear, lynxes, elks, wild boars, buffalos – are settled in the conditions similar to those they experience in the wild. Those of you who are interested may like visit the small rodents’ centre. Nature study trails introduce various plant species with the help of information signs. A boardwalk will take visitors to the viewing platform by Lake Elistvere where one can admire the lake’s rich bird kingdom.

From Elisvere you move forward to Mustvee Peipsi Lake (1 hour) – straddling the Estonian-Russian border, Lake Peipsi (Chudskoe Ozero in Russian) is the fifth-largest lake in Europe. This area had popular resorts during Soviet times but many of them have been left to crumble.

Here we will try to find and taste famous Peipsi Lake smoked fish (summer season offer). Afterwards we will have transfer to Tallinn (Two & a half hours), check in Radisson hotel or similar.
